Flying Flags Update

Flying Flags RV Park in Buellton has had a great amount of changes carried out.

Flying Flags RV park

We stayed at the Flying Flags RV park last week and had such a great time.  There have been so many changes there since we were there last. Dan Baumann who is the Manager has done a great job.  Well done Dan.  Dan by the way is now the deputy Mayor of Buellton.  Good job xx

The staff at the desk are the first people to greet you and their customer service along with free cookies and a great shop carrying some fabulous wine for sale could not be better.

Thank you ladies for making our stay a pleasant one.

New Kitchen

They have a brand new kitchen and they cooked some great breakfast for us.  They have a whole menu there and also on the evening we ordered a nice glass of wine too.  Wow! so fabulous.  The chef Matt is a genius cook and we really enjoyed the breakfast he made for us.

New Camp for upmarket tents

When we were here last they had new really upmarket tents that had been put up with luxury living inside.  We only saw one and now they have a whole village of them for rent and to stay in.  Such a fabulous idea and a great place to stay.  I spoke to a lady who had stayed there for the weekend and was really upset at leaving and going home.

This is what she had to say

Not only was the accommodation to stay in top-notch but the bathrooms and utilities were the best I have ever seen anywhere.

The swimming pool and jaccuzzi was just amazing and they are even now building another bigger swimming pool on the field.

Adding to the fact that the kids and adults can have a swim there were other added amenities for amusement as A fabulous bowling pitch for avid players of Bocce Ball.  Also great new bar has been incorporated out on the field right next to the Bocce Ball pitch along with a stage for evening entertainment at weekends.  We were lucky enough to have a great night listening to a fabulous band and have a nice pint to boot.  Great friends we had not seen in a long time were with us as well.  Just fabulous to see Darlene Bayer, Dan Baumann and Cathy Vreeland.  Thanks for a great night.

On our second night there we grabbed a glass of wine and sat around the fire by the reception area and listened to a guy playing guitar who was from Belgium.  You meet so many people when you are camping.  We had yet another great night.

We had such a great weekend at Flying Flags that we will definitely be back again soon and just cannot wait.  See you all again soon.

Weekend in El Capitan

We just had a great Weekend in El Capitan, CA

Weekend

It was the first time in our RV for a vacation away since we had the flood, it was just like putting on a comfy pair of shoes.  We really missed our RV and miss the lifestyle so much.  We talked to more people in that weekend than we had done living in the apartment for a month.  We just love the lifestyle of living in an RV and I don’t think it will be long before we are back in it full-time again.

Living in an apartment is nice and our apartment could not be better as it is very exclusive and high-tech.  The problem is that it is a lonely existence.  No one talks to each other, we can’t just sit outside the home and talk to passers-by and just really miss our friends that we made along our travels, especially friends made in Buellton, Lake Elsinore and Half Moon Bay.  Don’t be surprised it we end up back in our RV full-time again.

Weekend

Oceanmesa Campground

Oceanmesa Campground is a great place for a mini vacation away and was where we stayed and the reason that we stayed there was that the RV had to be picked up from the Camping world in Valencia after having new carpet put in in the bedroom and the side panel fixed.  Peter picked it up took it to Oceanmesa, then had to travel to Oxnard to still go to work. He then picked me up at 11pm and we drove there which was only about an hour away.  We wanted to go that night so that we woke up in the RV and then had the whole weekend there.

It was a great campground, easy to drive into the pull through spot and easy to drive out.  They had a pool and it was a bit of a walk but walking distance to El Capitan beach.  The other beach close by was a 5 minute drive which was Refugio Beach.

Refugio Beach is my favourite beach and we have been there many times before.

Weird

It was weird being in the RV without all my things around me and it really felt like we were camping.  When we lived in it full-time it just felt like a home.  This time the extra carpets i had on the floor were gone and all my pictures and things that made it look like home.  I really missed that when we were there.  At the weekend we had to really look and see what we had there and perhaps had overlooked when we moved out.  We really tried to make sure that all the things we needed for a weekend were in the RV and other things at home.  I think we nailed it as we did not really see there was anything we had forgotten.

Weekend

Bare RV

vacation

Just look how bare it looks

Vunerable

I had forgotten though how vunerable at times you can feel in an RV,  On the Sunday night we were in bed and the wind pick up to extreme mph.  I could not sleep and at one point felt very scared. It was that windy I thought we were going to tip over. Peter was telling me that no way could it tip over.  We were right on top of the hill and there was nothing between us and the sea so we were getting it full blast.  I can tell you that in the 4 years we have stayed in the RV I have never felt so scared.

It doesn’t put me off though , in the morning we were outside having our breakfast, listening to the birds chirping and waving to passers by walking their dogs.

We love Camping xx

Work from Home

Work from home in your RV

You can work from home in your RV or indeed in your own home.  Now I know that you see this all over the internet and you probably think, who can I trust to do this.

I have tried and tested quite a few network marketing and on-line marketing companies over the last 6 years and all I can say it that it has been a painstaking massive and sometimes frustrating time for me.

You might ask yourself, what is network marketing and what is on-line marketing.  Let me explain in my own words what they are.

Network Marketing – Javita coffee products and beverages

javita

work

Network marketing is when you sell or promote a product to people who you know both in person, through emails and through social media like facebook.  For instance Mary Kay is a network marketing company.  I belong to Javita Coffee Company my self and I really love their products and also their compensation is one of the best I have ever seen.  You get paid commission on what you do and from those people you personally sign up below you and who they sign up below them.  Your work is really to promote and help your team be as successful as you if not more. Loving the product that you promote is very important.  I found that while I was travelling in my RV javita coffee  was a very easy product to promote and I often gave out samples to people who then purchased boxes of coffee from me and joined my business which in turn created money for me each month and also on a weekly basis.  I did do better when I was established in one place for a while so that I could build a team of people around me.

Join Javita today, build your own team and have free website to direct people to buy coffee from you.

Online Marketing

With online marketing I have had successes and failures but I have learned such a great many things in the process.  I am not to technically minded and I struggled with understanding some of the programs I joined and did not feel that I have enough help.  I stumble across a company called The multi stream system.  It is free to join and then you pay for what you decided to purchase inside the system and some of the systems inside are free too.  This system is for every pocket no matter how small or large that you have available to you.  I am having great success with this company with 84 people joining my team within a week of joining.  All done online and some paid advertising through the system.

Inside the system there is step by step instructions on how to set up your multi-stream online income.  You can build income slowly or as fast as you want.  You can invest a little into your business or more if you want to build fast.  Every day I look at my account it has gone up and that excites me very much.  If you want to be as excited as me then click the link and get started for free today. Writing a blog

Another way you can earn money is to work from home writing a blog, now some people wonder why you would write a blog.  I like to write my blog so that as we travel around doing many fabulous things then we can let friends and family know that we are ok and having a great time and also I promote different things on my blog and make money from companies like Amazon.  To make money doing this you need to build your list of followers so that the more people who read your blog on a regular basis and follow you may want to purchase some of the same items that you do.

Our RV has been in the repair shop for a while so it has been difficult to write about going away when we have not.  We do however pick up our RV next friday and we are really excited to be taking it out for a spin.

I hope this helps to give you some incite on how you can make money from home.  There are many more and these are just the ones that I do.  You can do the same by clicking the links in this blog.

Camarillo Apartment

Peter and I have moved into our new apartment in Camarillo.

Camarillo

Hey all it has been 6 weeks since our last post and I can tell you I have really missed my weekly blogging.  Our RV would you believe is still in the workshop and we are not happy with both that adjusters for taking so long and Camping World for holding them up with photos that they were requesting.  We are going to give them a couple more weeks and then start to take some action of some kind.  Spring is just around the corner and we want to be able to use our RV.  It is rediculous it is takeing so long.

Well after living in hotels and airbnbs with no where to live during the flood, number 1 we have put on so much weight eating just from a microwave or eating out and number 2 our stuff just feels like it is all over the place.  We have stayed positive knowing that it was not long till we moved into our new apartment in Camarillo and  after living full time in the RV for 4 years,  we were ready for a little change. Not sure how long we will last not living in the RV aswe loved the social aspect of it on a daily basis.  We will just do that now at weekends and long breaks.

Peter and I have decided that we really like Camarillo.  It has everything we want for a place to stay such as:

  • Beaches just minutes away
  • Mountain views
  • Air quality is good
  • Great shopping areas
  • Plenty of entertainment
  • Great Local Church
  • Great Network Marketing
  • Close to other towns such as Santa Barbara, Ventura, Oxnard, Thousand Oaks and Malibu.
  • A quilting club with over 350 members.

To be honest the list goes on and on, I can find so many reasons.

We moved into an apartment in the AMLI Spanish Hills Apartments it is apartment living at it’s finest. I said to Peter if we are going to live in an apartment then it has to be a really nice one and was exactly what I said to him when we were choosing the RV.

Our problem when moving into the apartment was that we had no furniture at all.  We hit the shops and chose a sofa bed so people can come to stay, a recliner chair and a bed, dining table and chairs, TV and of course a surround sound to begin with.  Soon after with a couple of more purchases we are quite nicely set up.

While living in hotels we were putting money down on these items each week so that when we moved in they were all paid for and that worked out great. On the day of moving everything got delivered within 2/3 hours of receiving the keys.

In the apartment we already had, cooker, fridge, washing machine, dryer and dishwasher so with the items we had purchased and our personal items we had soon set up a little home.

We have been in the apartment for 2 weeks now and we love it.  IWe need to get out and meet people and make friends is what is left to do, we have joined the local church and the local chamber of commerce is next and also I want to join a group of ladies as I have found out that do quilting.  It was my birthday 2 days ago and Peter has bought me a new sewing machine so I am eager to get going on it.

Here are some pictures of our new apartment, see your next time.

Flood in the RV – now in a Hotel

Can’t believe we have flood in our our RV.  We have had to move out of our RV temporarily due to a flood.

RV Flood

We have not been in our Rv now for a couple of weeks and we are really missing it.  We are staying in a hotel and after being in here for a few weeks I am now sick with a bad head cold which I can say I don’t think i was ever sick when I was in my RV with all the fresh air we got living that way.

We have had a massive flood in our RV.  Let me explain to you haow it happened so that future RV are not flooded this way.

In the shower we had a shower holder which had smart suckers that apparently work really well.   I guess they actually do not.

This baddy caused the flood

Flood

While I was out the shower caddy fell down and turned the tap on in the shower and hours later when I came home there was a water fall coming out of the RV on both sides.

We spent hours trying to clean up the water with the help of John our great neighbour.  It got dark really quick and we didn’t see till in the morning all the water that was still coming out from underneath the unit.  Peter and John unscrewed underneath to let all the water out and it went over Peter and he got soaked.  After letting it dry John screwed it all back up for us bless him we will be forever grateful.

We realized then that we would have to take the RV in for repair to access the damage.  The RV shop has said we need all new carpets and that one point by the door was really spongy.  We have had to get everything out of the RV that we could and have alot of our stuff in boxes at a friends garage.  The RV insurance company are to and froing with Camping world while they make their minds up whether they are going to do the claim or not.

It is a really scary time and I just don’t see what the problem is.  I really hope they cover it but if they don’t I really don’t know what we are going to do to get it fixed.  It is going to cost an arm and a leg.  If we have to pay then I may be asking you all for donations to help us during this difficult time.  We really don’t like to ask but if they do not cover the cost of repair then any help would be greatly appreciated.  I will kkep you all informed on what is going on soon.

We love our RV and cannot believe tht water like that can do so much damage.

Sorry I haven’t written for a while but will try to keep you all up to date with the flood outcome.

This is where we are staying at the moment.  Cheap and cheerful with breakfast included.  Most days it has only been $55 per night but at weekends up to $94.

Executive Inn and Suites

Anyway we are both ok so that is a good thing.  We hope you all had a great Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.

Hummingbirds like the Marmalade Bush

Hummingbirds are such an amazing bird to watch,  they just love the flowers on the bush right outside our RV.  On the Mountain View RV Park there are tons of these bushes and I see hummingbirds all the time.

Hummingbirds

In England where I come from, there are no hummingbirds just flying around.  I am not an expert I just like them and they fascinate me.  I could just watch them all day they are fabulous.  When I have visitors from England they are just mesmerized by these little birds.

Hummingbirds are so tiny and quick at flying that you could easily miss them.  They flit, they fly, and they hovver.  The cool thing is though that when there is food around for them they stick around longer.

The humming birds hover in the air and use their beaks to get the nectar from inside the flowers on the bush that is outside our RV.  The bush is called a Marmalade bush and there are so many in this RV Park it is really pretty with orange everywhere.  The winter is coming so the orange petals are starting to fall to the ground.

We have a marmalade bush right by our outdoor grill.  We sat there barbecuing and just watched a hummingbirds come and feed, it is just an awesome site.

This was the hummingbird last night feeding from the marmalade bush.

hummingbird

hummingbird outside our RV

When we lived in our house in Bakersfield, we had a couple of hummingbird feeders in the back yard that we kept full for them so that in the winter they had plenty to eat.  We had hummingbirds fighting over them it was so cool to watch.

Winter

I know that in California we do not really have harsh winters but have a thought for the hummingbirds when all the flowers have gone what are they going to eat.  Put out yourself a hummingbird feeder and then you can help them through the winter months.

Here is the feeder that we will be putting up in the winter ready to help them and this is the feeder that was in our back yard.  Just look at the hummingbirds they love it.

hummingbirds

Hummingbirds hovering around feeder

The solution that you put inside the feeder is sugar and water with one part sugar to four parts water,  boil the water to kill any bacteria let it cool and fill the feeder it is that easy.

Winter – 5 steps for your RV

Are you prepared for the winter nights that are drawing in?

Winter

Winter in Birmingham

This is what we left behind in England.  If we want snow we will go to the mountains to find it otherwise.

No thank you !

At night the temperature has started to drop, the clocks have gone back and it is dark now at 5.30pm.

We have been living in our RV full-time now for 3 years and to be honest have not had much of a problem getting through the winter.  We do have a few tips for you though.

Winter – Get prepared

Throughout the year we tend to use blankets, just sheets or home-made quilts that are in layers so that depending on the temperature we can put on or take off during the night.  Mostly kicking off all but our sheet during the summer .

We live in California so we find that the only time the temperature drops is during the winter months and at night.  That time is coming upon us and we noticed that the temperature dropped just the other night.  When this happens we switch out our blankets and put on our winter duvet.

1.   Duck Down Duvet

We have found the best duvet to have to keep you warm during the winter months is a duck down feather duvet.  It feels so light and yet is so warm.  We have been in freezing conditions in the past and yet we have stayed warm with this duvet.

Check out this video on how best to put you duvet into your duvet cover in a really easy way.  This can be done with just one person.

2.   Cover up your pipes outside

If you know that there is going to be some frost then you will need to go outside and insulate your pipes with slip foam rubber insulation.

3.  Cover up all outdoor furniture

You can get covers for you outdoor furniture and grills,  these can easily be taken off if you wish to use your furniture or grill anytime.  By doing this it will prolong the life of the outdoor furniture as frost can make plastic snap and break from the cold.

4.   Electric heaters

The use of electric heaters are great as they create less moisture in your RV.  We have our gas heater set on 60 so if the temperature drops really low at night then it just comes on.  Living in California has great benefits as it doesn’t drop down to that too much.  On our campsite Mountain View RV Park  the electric is included so that is great to use for heating.  If it is not then try to use both your gas and electric and split the cost of the bill.  Last year we needed a new propane tank every week to get us through the winter.

5.   Pull in your Awnings if you go out anywhere

When we went out today we did not pull in our Awning.  the winds picked up and all I could think about while we were out was. Wished we had pulled in our awning.  Get into the habit if you go out as the winds are much stronger in the winter and you may come back to no awning.

As an extra tip Become a Snowbird

What can I say we are snowbirds if you don’t want winter then move south just like the geese,  We are in Southern California and I thought today oh my there is a cloud in the sky it must be winter!

Halloween – dress up

Before I start telling you about our Halloween party last night, I just want to let you know that my first week at college doing my billing and coding course went really well.  I am thoroughly enjoying it and I got an  A  for all my work last week.  I am so excited I don’t ever remember getting an  A  when I was at school.  It is never too late to learn and although I go into the college to study you can do it right in the comfort of your own home.  Laurus college in Oxnard is where I am attending.

Halloween Party – Swing Dance Night

Halloween

Peter and Joyce

My husband Peter and I have only been at our new RV Park in Santa Paula Mountain View for a week and already we were invited to go to a swing dance night in Ventura, not only that but it was a Halloween dance where everyone dressed up so even better.

We are feeling really comfortable in this park and my only criticism would be that the spaces are parallel and not on a slant which would make it easier to navigate into your spot.  When this park was built it was not built for the big massive rigs that you see these days.  A poor older guy just hit a truck on his way into the park as he tried to navigate around the park and arrive in his space his poor RV and the Truck has taken a bit of a beating. Take those wide turns people stay right and wide.

Swing Dance Every Thursday in Ventura

Every Thursday in Ventura at the Golden China Restaurant there is swing dancing.  When it is your first time it is only $10 per couple then it is $10 per head following that.

We went last night and it was just fabulous nearly everyone was in costume and we will definitely be going again while we are living here in Santa Paula.

Wherever you live you need to get yourself out and about doing things.  Just because you live in an RV doesn’t mean you have to just sit in it.  Get out and about and do things.  If you can’t dance then go to lessons and learn,  if you’re not able to dance then just go and watch have something to eat and have a drink of your choice.  It is great entertainment watching some of the experts dancing.   It can be just like watching strictly come dancing on the TV.  When I’m not dancing I like to watch others it really makes you tap your feet even if you are not dancing.

We love to dance swing and rock n roll although we also like ballroom.  Peter and I first met doing ballroom dancing and it was over that time that evolved us into the relationship that we have today and after 21 years we still love to dance together.

Here are some of the other pictures of people dressed in costume at the Halloween swing dance. It was so much fun and we met so many people.

El Nino – Are you safe

Jacuzzi at Mountain View RV Park

We have just moved to a new RV Park in Santa Paula called Mountain View RV Park.  The Journey was only 20 minutes away so not a long journey at all.  Everything went well with the move and our spot was really easy to drive into.

Living here in Santa Paula, we feel quite safe.  The fact that with the El Nino, that people are talking about coming to California this fall, that we are going to be safe.

Our spot at Mountain View RV park

Lots of places to sit at the Jucuzzi

Santa Paula

Santa Paula is known as the citrus capital of the world and trust me there is orange and lemon trees everywhere you look.   Peter and I sing the song Orange and Lemons every time we go past them.  We just can’t help it.  We just love the smell.

In England where we are from we don’t have orange or lemon trees.  The first time we saw the orange and lemon groves here in this area was when we arrived in America in 2006 we had a trip to the beach at Ventura and drove down the 126 which were just lined with all the groves and it was just fascinating, we bought some oranges on our way home and they were the sweetest oranges and juiciest we had ever tasted.  Yum.

We really can’t believe that 8 years later we are living amongst the groves.  Just beautiful.

We really like living in RV Parks as we love meeting people and having a life that is as much indoors as outdoors and we like the fact that people who live in RVs meet up and socialize.

Peter just got home from work and we had a nice swim before dinner just fabulous, we were the only ones in the jacuzzi. A beer in one hand and a nice dip after a hard day, priceless.

The same day we moved in Mountain View RV Park we were invited over for snacks and a swim in the Jacuzzi with a few of the other guests staying at the park.  We met about 8 people and have already spoken to our wonderful neighbours who have been very helpful.

El Nino KTLA –  guideline.

On the news this morning they talked about being prepared for the El Nino coming in the fall.  It really made you think.  They explained all about what the El Nino is and to make sure that you know what to do should something happen like a mudslide.  Click the above link to see their explanation and the guideline they have said you should follow.

My take on it is that if you are prepared for earthquakes as you should be living in California, then you are prepared for the El Nino.  The same thing applies.  One of the things they did talk about though on the news was to make sure you have Wellington boots, they called them something else that Americans call them and I cannot remember what that is so here is a link of what the English call wellies

Keep your wellies in the car so that in the effect of a mudslide that you are able to walk away from the situation should you be trapped in your car.

We also feel that living further inland for the winter will be very beneficial, with the El Nino effect coming around the fall we have a feeling that living right by the beach may not be a good idea. Obviously you really do not know what can happen as living by the coast or inland in a valley can have a devastating effect no matter what.

The El Nino could cause mudslides from the mountains and the Santa Clara River in Santa Paula could fill and overflow or we could indeed have an earthquake living in California anyway.  We do feel a little safer inland from both as an earthquake could cause a Tsunami and being right there at the beach would not be a good place to be. Who knows what could happen but just that you should be prepared.

Be Prepared and check out the KTLA link above.

Stay safe and love to all.

Ventura Pier – just so beautiful

We are in an RV park not far from Ventura Pier just off the main high street and are leaving here on Saturday.  We have not enjoyed our time in the park for many reasons.

1.   The price -$1900 is just way to expensive for a spot right by the freeway and opposite a childrens park.

2.   The customer service in the park is just awful.  I have witnessed so many incidents of the way that the staff have spoken to other people in the office.

3.  There are so many security guards that you are afraid to breathe.

4.  There was a sign on the gate for the pool saying “please do not go into the pool if you have had diraeah in the last 7 days.  This really put me off.

5.   The grass is watered every day and it soaks my windows to the RV and steps and the side of my RV every single day.  It had driven me nuts.

No not happy at all.  I would go as far as to say it is the worse park we have ever stayed at.  EVER!

We are moving on Saturday to Santa Paula CA and we are very excited we have a pull through spot and it is over 50% less in rent to pay, after we have moved in I will tell you all about it.  It is just a small family site but I know we will be happy there and it is still within distance of the beautiful Ventura Beach so we can still have a great time at the beach.

College

I have started to do a college course online and I am doing a course in Billing and Coding.  I am very excited as this is something I have always wanted to do.  The College I am attending is in Oxnard and called laurus College and I have been going everyday this week. It is a very small college and I feel really comfortable already going there.  I can do the course online or go into the college,  whilst we are local I will be attending the college as it is just so exciting to go there every day.  When we do eventually move I can just carry on doing it from home in my RV.  I am just really excited.

Ventura

On my way home from college today I decided I would stop off at the pier at Ventura.  It was such a fabulous day and there wasnt a cloud in the sky.  I parked in the car structure and got a ticket but if I ate at any of the restaurants on the pier my parking would be paid for.  I therefore did eat at the restaurant at the pier and had a fish sandwich and sat just staring out of the window all on my own at the Ventura pier in front of me.  Afterwards I walked along the Ventura pier and it was just so tranquil and quiet with hardly anyone around with it being in the daytime and a weekday.

I ventured to the end of the pier and sat just staring out into the deep blue sea mesmerised by the beauty of it all.

If you ever get chance then head out to Ventura. Eat, play in the beautiful sand, kick your feet in the waves and just enjoy the beautiful scenery and sunshine.

Here are some pictures of Ventura Pier from my day today.  Enjoy.

School Friend Visit

School friend visit.

I have had such a great day with my friend Deborah Douglas (Maher).  Debbie is over here on work business and only had 1 day where she was free to spend time with me before she had to work and then fly back to England.  What are the odds that the hotel she was staying at was only 1 hour away from me and a hotel I used to frequent for business meetings.

I was at the same Junior school with Debbie from when I was 10. I remember that she fell off the toilet door frame when she was swinging at aged 10 and put a big gash in her leg and the abulance came to take her to hospital.  Everyone talked about this incident for weeks and Debbie had the big massive scar to prove it.  Funny how there are things that you remember when your are small from school times.

We were then in the same class together in Senior school and we went to Longmeadow Girls school in Birmingham, England.  They say that friends that you make way back when are still friends now as the friendship chemistry between you never goes away.  i believe this is so true as we get on like a house on fire.  We never stopped talking all day and I was very sad when i had to come home as we still had so much more to say but very little time.

This is very true with Debbie and me, we had such a great day catching up talking about classmates and things that we got up to when we were much younger.  We were in the same club together and had friends that we both hung about with.

How do you have a memorable day with very little time. well first of all we went and had a manicure and pedicure.

Manicure and Pedicure

What a great time this was.  We were sat next to each other and never shut up the whole time.  We had our arms and legs massaged and had a right girly time of it.  We found an absolutely delight of a salonthat did this in Santa Clarita called Ocean Spa Nail Salon as far as i am concerned, the best nail spa I have ever been to.  They even had little chairs for the kids to sit in.  One child was sat there watching frozen on the computer in front of him provided by the salon while his Mom got her nails done.  Just perfect, we had a great pampering session.

Lunch

After our pampering session we were hungry so we went to Marie Callenders just down the road and had a fabulous lunch.  I really like this place and have been many times before.  We stayed chatting the whole time and even got the waiter to take our photo.  We both had one of their famous pot pies which was just so huge and Debbie had hot wings which she loved but were way to hot for me.

Right now we needed to walk off that lunch and we were both feeling rather heavy in our tummies at this point.  I had a great idea that would both give Debbie a memorable experience that really was not too far away only 20 mins and also where we could walk off some of that lunch.

Vasquez Rocks

Vasquez Rocks is such a great place to just go for an hour or so and you really feel like you have been somewhere very special.  There are alot of films that use this backdrop as it is just so fabulous.  I know that The Flinstones was filmed here and when you see the photos you will see why.  As we walked around the mountain of rocks you can see the freeway in the distance but there is no sound.  You can hear a pin drop.  We got some great photos and Debbie was really thrilled that we went there as it is such a great site to see.

Amyway day over now and time to get home.  I really do not know when I will see Debbie again but I really hope that it wont be in the too distant future.  School friends forever.

Southwest Coast

Yanks RV Resort

We have arrived safe and sound at our campsite without any mishaps whatsoever.  We stayed at a fabulous campsite on our way down the 101 from Redwood City, CA called Yanks RV Resort.  We had a massive 100ft spot that we just pulled into and left our truck hooked up for the night.

Our RV at Yanks RV Resort

It was a beautiful park which was very clean and well-kept.  We had a nice relaxing stay having a swim and a little time in the Jacuzzi until late, it was just what we needed to relax.

Yanks RV Resort

As we then the next day carried on down the 101 we stopped off for breakfast a the truck stop in Paso Robles which was just fabulous and had a great breakfast that was really inexpensive.

Southwest Coast – Ventura CA

We carried on straight down the 101 which goes right next to the Southwest Coast in parts and is really beautiful.  We arrived at our site in Ventura in plenty of time to set up at 3pm.  When we went to go pay we were told that our site was no longer going to be $1450 as previously expected but that now it was going to be $1950 instead.  We were flabbergasted and could not believe the increase or the matter of fact way that it was explained to us.  Apparently the site that we were going into was a premium pull thorough site.  When we tried to get into our site it was really small and difficult to maneuver with two big hedges on either side the were right up against the slide outs.  We went back to the office to explain that we couldn’t fit and they gave us another site.  It is a little bigger but not much and is now right opposite the children’s park and right facing the freeway.  We have no choice to stay as there are no other parks in the area within 30 mins of Oxnard and so unless we can come up with another solution we have no choice but to pay $1950 per month for our spot.  We are absolutely disgusted with the price and if anyone has any other ideas for us please let us know.

Ventura Harbor

After all the places we have visited the Southwest Coast is our favorite.  The very next day we went for a visit to Ventura Harbor which we have been to before but really love.  We had some ice-cream that was gluten-free, dairy free and was made with  pineapple and just delicious.  The harbor is a very quiet and tranquil place and calmed us down no end after feeling very angry.  Peter had two days off work so we headed to the beach at the harbor and spent a day at the beach there.  There really were hardly any people there and we had a very relaxing time.  Peter got a bit burnt from the sun, he did put on lotion but obviously not in all the places he should.  Bless him when he went to work he looked like a lobster.  I think he forgot how the sun on the southwest coast is very strong with no clouds for coverage.

Snowbirds – Ventura here we come

The snowbirds saying goodbye

Yesterday at Kaiser where Peter works they did a high tea for him with lots of really nice sandwiches and goodies and had a bit of an English day for Peter.  He loved it, Peter is loved wherever he works and always makes great friends and he is always sad to leave and say goodbye.

It is our last day at the repair shop where we have been boondocking as well.  Boondocking means that we were just dry camping with no hook ups to water or sewer.  We did however have access to electricity and we have been a guest of  V&V brothers repair shop and have been really grateful of their hospitality. You can last a week like this in your RV and we have been at the repair shop on their parking lot for 5 days.  We have tried to conserve water as much as possible so that we can last without any problems.

Snowbirds

We are what is called Snow birds which means we live in our RV and that we are hitting south for the winter.  If you want to see what wikepedia says about snowbirds then just click the title link.  Who wants to be in an area where the weather may be a little colder in the winter.  Not us, we like the warmer weather, our time in Half Moon Bay was just fabulous and we were really lucky with the weather.  Not many cloudy days at all.  We felt like we were living in Scotland with all the heather and rugged terrain on the cliffs.  Fabulous scenery and views that we will cherish for all time.

There are snowbirds that come from all over America and Canada that travel to the South for the Winter. Most of these people are of ages 55 and upwards and some of them meet up every winter at the same places and just live through a winter in the warmer weather.  When I lived in England a lot of people in England go to places like Spain for the winter as England gets so cold.  A lot of the RV parks in the south cater for the snowbirds and give discounted rates for staying on a monthly rate in their parks in the winter.  So many people are doing this now that it can be hard to find a spot.

RV repairs

Not all of our repairs got done as one of the parts we needed was not able to be delivered in time.  The panel that needed repairing after hitting the post on our move to the North still needs to be replaced and is covered under insurance so we will now have to get that done in Ventura.  We were a little disappointed and not very happy after staying this week that we could not to get that done.  We are very laid back people so hey ho the wind and the rain.  It really is just cosmetic and will not affect us in any way so we will just have to wait a little longer to get it done.

We did get a few other little repairs done by Antonio at the V&V brothers repair shop and the most important of all a new set of stairs that got damaged in the accident which were dangerous.

During servicing the RV one of the biggest things that he replaced was the anode rod water heater element.  Apparently this needs to be replaced every year to stop the corrosion to your water heater.  We couldn’t believe the damage that had been done to it in 3 years and is a good job it has been replaced.  Just look at the picture of before and after. The skinny one is what it looks like now and the fat one is how it should be.  Unbelievable, we did not know that this needs to be replaced every year.

snowbirds

Water heater element

We are so happy with our new set of steps to the RV and now feel very safe stepping in and out and we even purchased a nice little step to make it even easier to get in and out.

Here is a picture of our new steps

snowbirds

Steps

Other things that you need to do yourself to keep your RV in good working order are:

  • Wash the mesh in the air-conditioning unit regularly just like you would if you lived in a house or replace as necessary.
  • Keep mesh ceiling vents clean.  We wash ours every 3 months and they look like new after 3 years.
  • Clean out the refrigerator vents on the outside and keep free of dust and debris.
  • Defrost the refrigerator every 3 months.  The RV refrigerator needs to be done more often than a normal house refrigerator.
  • Clean your RV every 3 months.
  • After 3 years get your roof checked out for any sealants that need replacing and paint the roof.  We are getting to that point but when we checked ours it is ok at the moment .

Diesel

The snowbirds are on their way today, sandwiches are made to keep us going and we leave today around 1pm to head down the 101 first of all to stop off for diesel at a truck stop which is just an hour away at The Garlic Farm Plaza truck stop for all you snowbirds travelling in case you didn’t know stopping at a truck stop makes it nice and easy to fill up as the rig is so big.  You should always plan your route so that you know were you can park and fill up or stop to eat.

Yanks RV Resort great for snowbirds

We will be staying tonight at the Yanks RV resort which is about 2 hours away from the truck stop. This RV park is very luxurious and we have a 100ft site that will be very easy to drive into and we can stay hooked up to our truck all night without any problem whatsoever.  The site cost is $73 and for such a large site we think this was very reasonable.

While we are at the RV resort we will be able to dump all of our sewerage and water and replenish our water tank as well as catch up with some washing that we could not do when we were boondocking.

We might even have a nice swim in the hot jacuzzi with a beer and relax for the night.  We would imagine that a lot of snowbirds head for this destination from further north as it looks like a really nice site.  We are looking forward to leaving today and we are really excited.

If you are snowbirds and would like to say high then just look our for the montanna mountaineer being pulled by a big red truck.

On Saturday morning we will head to Ventura and will get up and drive a further 1 hour and stop off for a really nice breakfast at another truck stop at the San Paso truck stop in Paso Robles.  This will make the journey nice and easy for Peter.

After that we will head down to our RV Park in Ventura which will take us about 3 hours. We will be staying at the Ventura Beach RV park it was very difficult to get an RV spot in this area as it is as a lot of snowbirds want to stay in this beautiful area.  There are various RV parks but all of them full.  We had our name down on some of them that were less expensive but just could not get a spot.  We are grateful we now have a spot booked but not really happy about the price which is $1600 per month which will include any electric.  The other RV parks that did not have any spaces are only $800 + electric which normally will be around $200 – $300.  We are hoping that this just means that this park is really luxurious. Lets hope so, a lot of the reviews we have read were not that favourable for such an expensive site.  a lot of the comments were though that it is near a freeway and we already know that.

Peter will be working in Oxnard so he needs to be able to get there and this is the only option available. We really don’t mind paying for a spot that is really nice it is our home after all.  We will do an update on our thoughts on the park once we are settled in.

We will really miss the wonderful friends we have made up north but hopefully we will see you again. Bye for now and see you soon.

Javita Coffee, Tea, Cocoa and Cold Drinks

About Javita

I have been a Javita Member now for over 2 years and I am still really excited to be a part of them. Working from home doing my blog and also as a Javita member is just great.  I have made friends who will stay with me forever in my life and I really enjoy their products on a daily basis.  My close friend Jill Putman got me interested in Javita and along with her close friend Dr Chi Ngyuen helped me to launch my business.  I would like to thank them both for their continued support.

The name Javita came to life when their executive team put two words together – java for coffee and vita for life.

The Javita company is based in Florida and are a network marketing company. They have two types of people who sign up with them and they are Members like me and Customers.  These people are changing their lives by enjoying the health – promoting benefits of its high-quality great tasting products.

The CEO of the company is Stan Cherelstein, I have met him on several occasions and he is such a kind and wonderful man, I really feel he just wants everyone to get healthy and prosper.

Stan and his team have almost 200 years of combined industry between them so it is no wonder that everything at the head office just works like clockwork.  Everything is in place for customers and members to feel really secure in receiving the best product and the best service at all times.

You probably wonder why does coffee and RVing go together and I am now going to tell you.  I drink Javita in my RV because :

1.   It helps me lose weight

2.   It helps me stay focused especially when I am tired in the afternoon and on long journeys.

3.   It uses up less space than a coffee machine.

4.   It is instant and can be made hot or cold

There are many reasons why I drink Javita and as I tell you about the different products you will see why.

My husband and I started to eat healthy around 2 years ago now.  A very good friend of mine Michelle Sala Radke is a certified health coach and she taught Peter and I about healthy eating.  We still have things that Michelle has said we shouldnt but we really do eat way better than we did before.  I asked her to look into Javita coffee for me before I started to drink it and it got the thumbs up from her.  Michelle is so amazing, we learned so much about the food that we eat.  I still have lots of weight to lose but because of her I don’t have the health issues I had before.  Eating healthy is key.  We found it so much easier to stick to a healthy diet as Javita burn and control helped to curb my appetite and when I drink 2 cups per day it does exactly that.  We are naughty and do not always drink enough or eat the things we are supposed to all the time but we are way better and healthier than ever before.  Rome wasnt built-in a day.

The products

The Javita products are all healthy and contain lots of different herbs that can help you in so many different ways.  You can read all about the products on My website I don’t want to write about them all and get it wrong.  Go to the webpage and it tells you all about them. Or I can send you a magazine that I have that explains it all to you.

The different products at a price of $35 per box on-line by name are:

1.   Burn and Control Coffee

2.   Energy and Mind Coffee

3.   Lean and Green Tea

4.   Herbal Cleanse Tea

5.   FocusFusion Cocoa

6.   ActiveBlenz Control

7.   ActiveBlenz Defend

8.   ActiveBlenz Flex

9.   Activeblenz Rush

The products do exactly what they say on the box so read all about them today and go to my website

This is how I store my product in my RV and as you can see I can drink them hot or cold, it makes it easy to choose which drink I want.  I just pick up the sachet I want open put powder into a cup or glass and add water and stir.  It couldn’t be simpler.

Javita

My Javita

They come in boxes like this.

Javita

Different products available

My favorite 2 javita products are the Burn and Control coffee so it can help me lose weight,  I have lost 20 pounds since drinking this and have kept it off,  My husband also lost weight and has kept his weight off too he is at his ideal weight and I need to continue to drink 2 a day to try to lose another 20.  I am going to work on this during the next year.  My other favorite drink is the Energy and Mind Coffee.  My husband and I drink this if we are tired and still need to go do something or if we are on a long drive.  It helps us stay focused and think as clear as a bell.

Changing the habits of a lifetime is very difficult but with Javita to help you it makes it a whole lot easier.  It is not a miracle cure but a tool to use to help you along the way.

Get you coffee today just go to my website and become a customer today.  If you have any further questions then please feel free to email me.

Repairs on our fifth wheel

Leaving Half Moon Bay

We have been in Half Moon Bay in San Francisco for 3 months now and it was time to leave.  We are on our way now to Ventura County, CA and have to first stop off for some much needed repairs in Redwood City.

Our stay at Half Moon Bay RV Park has been a good one.  We loved the sizes of the plots that we were given and felt like we had alot of personal space.  It was great to be so close to enterainment and also really close to the sea and all the wonderful views it has to offer.  Our only complaint would be the dust, we have never stayed on such a dusty site.  The unpaved roads cause so much dust, even with cars , trucks and RV going past your site at 5mph still causes clouds of the stuff.  It was a nightmare.   I was forever cleaning and when we left was thinking this will turn to mud when the rains comes heavy.  Not a good Idea.  We kept carpets down outside to try and stop some of the tread and trying to get my husband to take his shoes off everytime he came in was a real battle.  I for one will not miss the dust.

Although we have only been on the campsite in Half Moon Bay for 3 months, we made some very good friends that I am sure we will be in touch with in the future.  When you live this way, you never know when you will meet again.  We both had to hold back the tears when we left as we had some very good memories there.

On Saturday Peter and I had so much to do getting ready to move.  It took us a while to take down our tower garden as the roots had taken such a hold in just 3 short months.  The tower garden seemed to really love the weather here.  We picked all the rest of the tomatoes which were in abundance and gave some to neighbours.  Most were still green but before long will turn red.  It wasn’t such a big job to get ready to move but because we had both been to the pub the night before we both had hangovers that made us go really slow and took us all day to pack up.  It is a good job I had started preparing to leave a few days before. We washed our RV ready for the move because if we did not wash our RV then when we pull in the slides all the debris and dust would have come inside so we really did not have an option.  We felt so guilty while washing our RV as California is in a drought but this is our home and we have to look after it.  It was so dirty after only 3 months of being there and probably the dirtiest it has ever been.

V&V RV Repairs

Peter hooked up and drove right over the 92 to the V&V RV Repairs  The 92 is a very winedy road and Peter did really well and in fact it has boosted his confidence with driving.  When we got there One of the brothers Victor helped us get into the spot he had for us so that our repairs can be done this week.  We will be staying here till Friday.  We feel very safe as right next to us he has a security guard in his RV and he also has a dog.  I could not believe though how close to the wall we are and how Peter did that I will never know.  He did a great job.  We cannot have the slides out fully in the RV as people still have to get by us on the road so it is a bit weird to be staying in here with the slides not fully out.

On our way up to Half Moon Bay the RV hit a post and that is the major repair we have.  It needs new stairs and a long panel to be fixed.  We also are going to get a full service done and just a few silly repairs inside.

It was Victor who suggested that we just stay with them on their site while they do the repairs and understood that this was our home.  This has saved us probably $1000 that it would have cost to stay in a hotel while repairs are carried out.  We are blown away by his hospitality.  Thank you Victor.

After they have done all the repairs and service,  we do alot of services ourselves and keep the RV really clean inside and out that helps but the heating and air con will need servicing.  I will let you know the costs and also what they did in the service so watch this space.

California Fires – are you prepared

Would you be ready to move your RV within 15 minutes if there was a fire?

California Fires

California fires

fire

California fires are a reality living in California and during our time here we have seen many fires.  With the many fires that are happening right now in Northern California it has been on many people conversations this past week.  The poor people who have lost their homes is just so sad.

The fire department came to our campsite just the other day and bought to attention to the owners that some campers have way to many items around their RVs.  When you live in your RV full-time you start to collect stuff.  Do not be a victim of California Fires and be prepared.

If you can honestly say that you could not move your RV in 15 minutes then you really need to have a rethink about the STUFF in your RV and around it.

We went through our RV and I can proudly say that we could move in 15 minutes having everything packed inside and out.

The only thing that would get left behind would be our tower garden and some plants.

A Place for Everything

In our RV we have a place for everything and the same plan every time we move sites.  This is how I start packing inside the house.  It normally takes me an hour as I just take my time when I pack away but I can certainly do it in 15 minutes and living in areas where California Fires are a reality, along with tsunamis and earthquakes we have certainly thought of this.

Here are my steps for packing.

1.  First thing I do is to pack my wine glasses into a wine glass protection case.  This releases a whole cupboard for my pictures and ornaments that I have around my RV.

california fires

Glass case

2.  Wrap ornaments in tea towels and place into cupboard that is now empty.  This does not take long.  I start in one area of the RV and work around so that nothing is missed.  All these items fit into that cupboard and then at the front and back I place cushions off the couch for extra safety.

california fires

Ornaments

3.  My washing machine goes into the shower, and the kitchen trash can go into the bathroom.

image

4.   My shoes go into a box and also into the bathroom on the floor.  The shoe rack closes flat on goes onto the couch.

5.   My small folding table wheels into the corner where the shoes were along with the coffee table.

6.  The printer goes under the dining room chairs.

7.  The filing cabinet is put onto the couch.

8.  The two swivel chairs go back to back with the cupboard between them so that when the slides come in they have nowhere to go.

9.  Carpets are rolled up and put onto the bed.

10.  everything in the kitchen fits under the sink, except the knives that go under a chair also in the dining room.

11.  Anything on the dressing table in the bedroom fits into the bedroom cupboards.

12.  In the bathroom everything left out goes into the sink such as toothbrushes, soaps etc.

I then check that all the cupboards are shut properly and that there is nothing obstructing the slide outs.  I start in one spot and go all the way around.  We are then ready for the slide outs to come in.  One of the things I nearly forgot once was the hangers  I have over draws in the kitchen.

california fires

drawer hanger

Check ever inch and then get someone else to check too.

If you are having to move in a rush then just stay calm and go through mthodically.

1.  Stay Calm

2.  Make a Plan

3.  Have a place for everything

4.  Be organised

5.  Everything in the RV should have a home in the RV

6.  Everything outside of the RV has a home underneath the RV in storage when packing.

The only help I need inside the RV is to put the chairs back to back, everything else I can do very easily whilst my husband Peter does outside disconnecting the pipes and electricity and making sure everything is stored in the understorage compartments.

We have timed ourselves and it is tight but we can do all this in 15 minutes.

Organisation is the key to all of this.  If you do not have a place for everything then you will not succeed in getting away in time and saving your home and your life.

Leaving your RV in 2 Minutes

If you do not even get 15 minutes because maybe the fire is just too close, make sure that all your personal papers like passports and birth certificates are altogether and in something that you can pick up and run with and also keep them in a safe that if it burns they are not damaged inside.

This is the one that we have

california fires

Sentry safe

Make a plan today California Fires is a reality, make sure your can pack up and go within 15 minutes. Fire will not wait for you to pack up.

Weekend with visitors

The Weekend

This weekend was a great time as we had our son Michael visit with his boyfriend Mike.  We had a packed schedule for them and a great time ahead.

They both arrived at 11pm on the Friday evening, we would normally be in bed at this time but wanted to wait up so that we were awake at their arrival.

Cameron’s Inn

We went over to Cameron’s Pub which was such a long way to walk (50 steps from our RV.  Friday and Saturday are karaoke night so we decided we would go and that would keep us entertained until they Came. Sure enough after a couple of drinks we were having a good old-time and singing ourselves on the karaoke.  I was up singing Jailhouse Rock as they arrived and Michael said to Mike “I think that’s my mom singing” just before they entered and sure enough there I was.

After driving for 6 hours they were both tired but were ready to have a good weekend, with still an hour of karaoke left I wasn’t gonna let them get away with not singing.  Michael sang and then it was time to go back to the RV and settle us all down for the night.

Pillar Point Harbor

Peter and I had already been to Pillar point Harbor but the boys had not so when people come to stay you tend to go to places you have already been so that you can show them the fabulous views.  We rose early the next day and had bacon, eggs and toast for breakfast and headed out over to Pillar Point Harbor to have a look round at the boats and harbor.  it was an extremely beautiful day and wasn’t too long before we were all ready to eat again.

We ate at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company.  We had great food and even had samplers of beer to try which was just fabulous.  we had such a good time and the highlight was a truly the apple crumple that Per and I shared which was delicious

As we walked around the harbor there were some men who had caught some fish and were cutting them up.  all very exciting but I’m sure the fish was looking at me.

Weekend

Pigeon Point lighthouse

We went from there onto see the lighthouse at Pigeon Point Lighthouse.  The views are just breathtaking and I just knew the boys would enjoy to see this.  The last time we came everything was closed but this time the shop was open and other parts that we had not seen before.  Well worth a visit.  We got some great pictures and had a fabulous visit there.

Weekend

The two Michael’s

We went back to the RV, watched a movie and all napped a little and then went over to Cameron’s for the karaoke.  We all had a sing-song and were joined by Geri and her daughter Jessica who was also over for the weekend.  I got up to sing with Mike at one point and it was great fun.  Watch the video of the fun we had singing.

Mike and Joyce signing

Sunday came and went off to San Francisco for the day.  We drove in to San francisco knowing it was a holiday weekend we knew it was going to be busy so we parked on the front near pier 19 which is easy then to walk up to pier 49 where we wanted to get to, we were early so the cost of parking was only $20 for the whole day.  It is called early bird parking and is given when you are there before 10 a.m.

Our intention was to have breakfast on pier 39 so that’s where we headed.  We ate at Eagle Cafe and had a wonderful breakfast to keep us going for the day.  We wandered around the pier 39 and saw the sea lions relaxing on the pier along with such great views of Alcatraz, with such beautiful weather and great company what more could we ask for.  We were feeling very lucky I indeed.

The two Michael’s paid for us to go to the Aquarium and we all were thrilled in there to see the Sharks and other fish in the water tunnel.  I could have stayed there forever so thrilling to see the sharks.  We saw so many different kinds of fish it is unbelievable how many species there are.

We got some great pictures.

Weekend

My husband and I drover over to the Ritz hotel to see the sunset with some friends and the pictures we got were just fabulous.

Weekend

The Ritz Hotel, Half Moon Bay

Weekend

Sunset at the Ritz

We will certainly miss this area as we leave next week as we head down south to Ventura/Oxnard area. Exploring California in our RV is very exciting we meet so many people and in this area we have made so many friends I am sure we will be back another time.  I havent see my friends at the quilting shop for the past couple of weeks as I had some work I had to do but I really was grateful of their help while I was here.  Also I will miss a couple of really close friends that we met.  The good thing is that because of the internet people can stay in touch.

This weekend will be a getting ready to go weekend so follow by blog to see how I pack up ready to go on our journey to our next destination.

Growing vegetables when your travelling

We travel in our RV all over California and pretty much change our location every 3 or 6 months.  We have just been notified that we are leaving Half Moon Bay RV Park and heading back down south and our Destination is Oxnard CA.  We are ready and excited to go and the packing will start shortly.

We have been growing vegetables here in Half Moon Bay and our Tower Garden has seemed to like the weather very much.   This is how big it has grown in just two short months.

Growing Vegetables

The Tower Garden is hydroponic click the link to find out what hydroponic is.  It only took 3 weeks for all of our herbs and lettuces to grow.  We have been eating our lettuce for weeks.  We still have one lettuce left and tons of Kale.

The tomatoes are growing in bounds and are starting to turn red in places.  We have tons of cherry tomatoes turning red and the large tomatoes are still growing.  In the next couple of weeks they will be ready to pick im sure.  We also have peppers red and green which will be ready shortly too. Can’t you just smell them looking at the pictures

Strawberries

Our strawberries we will be picking this weekend.  There were not too many of them but we think we will have a nice smoothy with them and some Kale.

People like growing vegetables for themselves so that they know what they have NOT been sprayed with these days.  Lots of people in RV parks grow their own vegetables when they live permanently on a site. They grow them mostly in boxes or tubs so that if they move they can be taken with them.  I think however I have the perfect solution in my beautiful Tower Garden.  People stop and look to see how it grows so quickly and cannot believe it when I first put the plants in and that how big they are within 3 weeks.

Growing vegetables is such a pleasure.  It is even better when you can just go outside to pick your own crop for your dinner.  It is so tasty and fresh.  We are hoping the cucumbers have grown before we leave as they are well on their way.  If they are not ready to pick then when we dismantle to leave I will put them in some of the same solution that grows them and then take them with us.  Everything else will be ready to pick anyway so my tower garden will be pretty much done.

I replant and grow my vegetables every 3 months.  I wash everything and start again with a new crop.  As soon as we reach our destination in Oxnard we will replant.

The vegetables and herbs we grew this time were butter lettuce, kale, romaine lettuce, sage, chives, basil, cilantro, tomatoes cherry and large tomatoes, cucumber, strawberries and peppers.

We have had such a great crop while we are here.  We will be dismantling before we leave, pick all the crop and start again when we move.  We have moved mid crop before and dismantled and taken all of the plants very carefully in boxes with solution and reassembled when we get there.  All plants survived and we had a great crop from them.

If you would like to purchase a tower garden and are thinking about growing vegetables then please check out my webpage at Joyce’s tower garden page.  You can purchase your tower garden by paying monthly over 1 year which is what we did and now we own ours.  Best investment ever.

Donner family – Lake Donner visit

We love that fact that our weekends are mostly free to decide where we can visit next.

Donner Lake

Donner

Donner Lake

We sat around a fire at our RV park and was chatting with some friends.  We said we were going to head out to Lake Tahoe for the weekend and over to Reno when the subject changed to the Donner Family and what happened at Donner Lake in the 1846.

We decided we would go to Lake Tahoe first but do the north side and go through Donner Lake on our way as a stop off.

It really sat heavy with us as these poor people decided to emigrate from the east to the west for a new life.  We wanted to learn more. We immigrated to America for a new life 8 years ago and we felt we understood a little that you do what it takes to make it work.  Knowing that these poor people were just trying to make a new life for themselves just made it all the more sad.

Donner family

Donner

Monument

Donner

Plaque

The Donner people took what they thought was a shorter route so that they could knock 300 miles off their journey only to find that it was actually longer and also much worse terrain than if they had followed everyone else.  They found themselves getting trapped by the snow and being trapped for 5 months, after 3 weeks had no food left and finally turned themselves into cannibals as people died they ate them for food.   It must have been so hard for them to get through this time.  So many of them died and some people did survive.  Check out this webpage I found which explains it all far better that me. Website about the Donner Party

We visited Donner Lake and some of Donner Pass and climbed to 7227 feet at one point.  The Information center we visited had a large statue and I have put the picture below.  The snow was as deep as the block on the statue so as you can imagine was so deep.  As we walked around the Information center it gave you the whole story of what happened at that very sad time.  This is a part of US history we did not know so it was very interesting but very sad to read about.  We found the people visiting the center were very quiet walking around reading all the information.

During the harsh times of the Donner family The Washoe People interacted with them and bought them some food to help but when they saw them eventually resorting to cannibalism it made them scared of them look at this website I found on the Washoe people. The Washoe people

Chinese Immigrants

It first of all starts talking about the Donner family and then goes on to tell you all about the Chinese who emigrated to help with the building of the railway there too.  Thousands died doing this and it was so sad to read all the information about the chinese too.  We actually saw some of the railway that still stands today as we drove along onto Lake Tahoe.  It all looks so beautiful and unbelievable that so many people died. 137 workers died during the 4 years building the railway.  Read this information to learn more about what happened. Railroad History

North Lake Tahoe

We carried on our visit to North Lake Tahoe and it was an absolutely beautiful site.  We found a bench right on the lake to have our sandwiches.  The wind really picked up at that point and we just felt like we were sat at the seaside and not the lake.  The lake was so big that it really was just like the sea. We ate our sandwich and got back into the truck and off to Reno.  I booked a hotel quickly on my phone through expedia and off we went to our hotel.

Reno

We stayed at Sieno Hotel in Reno and we were given a really lovely room.  I didn’t sleep very well though as the air conditioning was so loud it drove me nuts.  Although it was a beautiful hotel I don’t think we will stay there again.

Well we went out for the night in Reno and decided we would just spend $20 each on gambling and then go for something to eat.  Nothing too expensive.  On the very first machine that we put our money into Peter won $500. Whoo hooo we were really happy and decided to go for a really nice meal and had a starter our meal, afters and a bottle of wine.  We also had some more money to have a little gamble.  Our weekend now was costing us nothing and we were really happy as you can imagine.

Reno was very surprising, the river walk had a lot of building going on and you can see that the city is being cleaned up   I think I will visit Reno again it would be interesting to see it in another 5 years. They are doing a great job.

We ate at the camporeno Restaurant and we both had Lamb.  It absolutely melted in our mouths and the wine was just wonderful.  The waiter Jason was a gem kept coming over and poured our wine for us and it was just all such a treat. The waiter made us feel very special.

We skipped all the way back to the hotel.

South Lake Tahoe

We left early in the morning and headed off to South Lake Tahoe which seemed weirdly different to the North of the Lake.  We paid $8 to park so that we could just take pictures of the beautiful old fashioned steam boats that were on the lake and we had breakfast.

Donner

We then headed up the hill to Emerald Bay which is part of the lake and just could not believe the stunning views upon heading up the hill.  At one point we were on a ridge with lakes on both side of us.  I got a great picture of Emerald Bay just see how beautiful it is.

Quilting project finished

Quilting

I felt really emotional yesterday at the Always Quilting Fabric Store in Redwood City yesterday.  It was time to pick up my first big quilt that I had made.  I have only ever made a little quilting mat before this which I use to put my sewing machine on.

The tears just welled up in me as I saw how beautiful it had been quilted. The lady in the shop that did my quilting was called Cathy, I gave her the biggest hug possible and thanked her for her fabulous work. I really don’t know why I felt so emotional, ridiculous really, I was just so excited how my hard work had paid off.  I used my stitch ripper so many times during making it ha ha!  the stitch rippers are the best for your mistakes.  I could just burst and I felt like skipping all the way home.

This quilt has been made for my son, he works as a sound engineer in film and is a lead singer of a band and he just loves music so with that in mind, I had the quilting done with musical notes and it just turned out so fantastic.  I just cannot wait now to show him.

The quilt I made was so basic in comparison to some others that I have seen in the store but the fact that I made it myself is just so fabulous.

I really don’t have too much room in my RV for crafts but you always find a way if you want to do something.  Having a place for everything in your RV is key to be able to live tidy and stress free.  I have been helping a lady on my site this week with solutions for her to be organised so that it makes things a little easier.  I will be posting some before and after pictures soon with solutions that you can use in your own RV if you wish.  I will also post where I purchased things from that helped with the organizing.

Quilting is going to now be my new hobby as I have already purchased my material for another quilt and I think I now have the bug to make more and to learn more new techniques.  I just love learning new things done you.

You too can make a quilt.  If you go to Always quilting they do great lessons.

Toilet for RV Replaced

Toilet Replaced

I cannot tell you how excited I am to get my new toilet, as I already mentioned in an earlier blog, my toilet just cracked right across the bottom and it was ceramic too.  I was sat on it at the time and I thought we had an earthquake.

We have been using a portaloo that we bought from Amazon that has saved our lives for the past couple of weeks while we got the acceptance of our warranty and VV Brothers Rv Repairs ordered the new toilet was being delivered.

It was supposed to be installed on Friday but they called to say that it had not arrived in the post yet.  I was gutted to have to use the portaloo again all over the weekend.  It is great for an emergency but we were both done with that and wanted our comfort back.

The toilet arrived yesterday afternoon and they came straight over to fit it for me.  What a great looking toilet it is too.  It is taller that the last one and is used in domestic homes too.  It is completely ceramic and has the foot flush.  Better yet it has a shower attachment that you can use to clean the toilet after use.  Brilliant idea and I could not be happier.

The toilet we now have is called a Dometic 3oo

Safety at the Campground

Keep your items safe.

My neighbour Shzz came home to Half Moon Bay on Sunday to find that someone had tried to steal her bikes.  Safety and living on an RV Park is no different from living in a home.  There is always someone ready to want to steal your personal items.

Safety

Bikes

We have been living in our RV for 3 years and in all that time, the only thing that we have had stolen is a knife.  We left the knife outside on a table and it was more fool us.  It was an expensive knife worth around $100.

Shzz decided she would like to write a pice for my blog and give you all some advice on looking after your items.

This piece has been written by Shzz Erkalan

Safety at the Campground

For the most part, campgrounds are safe. You’re more likely to fall and skin a knee or stare down an angry chipmunk than run into trouble of a human kind. It’s not so much that security is an integral part of most campground operations (although fenced-in perimeters, security gates, cameras and 24-hour security are fairly common), but rather RVers aren’t likely to prey on one another – and criminal elements can find better and easier scores elsewhere. Frankly, it’s tough for outsiders to sneak around rows and rows of parked RVs looking for loot. But again, it pays to be careful.

Get in to the habit of locking your rig every time you depart. I know, the place looks so quaint and charming nothing could happen, right? Why take chances – it takes but a matter of seconds to lock up and dissuade the family of kleptomaniacs next door from rummaging through your CD collection. This RV lockdown should include securing exterior storage compartments and windows as well. Close blinds and shades to make “casing the joint” a tougher task. Another perk? Shades keep the sun off the fabrics, which reduces fading. Take cooking items, chairs, and anything you want to be there upon your routine inside the RV or tow vehicle when you’re off at the swimming hole. Set up a neighbor watch by getting to know the people next to you, who are more likely to look after someone they know than complete strangers.

Consider a few devices to protect your vehicle and valuables while you’re away. Although it won’t win you any friends when it goes off accidentally in the night, a vehicle alarm system is a useful defense when you’re away. Motion-detecting lights, also known as “scare lights,” should scatter would-be intruders (not to mention critters). Safes are fairly common options on higher-end RVs, serving as an ideal spot for jewelry and traveler’s checks. If you’re worried about RV theft, invest in a trailer hitch lock or more pricey Lojack-type recovery apparatus. Otherwise, a hungry looking dog might do you just as good. Personally, I like to travel with a Louisville Slugger – just in case.

The choice of the RV park itself is also important. Question management about security. Do they have nightly patrols? Is the park well-lit? How hard is it for non-guests to come and go? Opt for a visible campsite in the heart of the park if safety is utmost on your mind. Travel the grounds in pairs and stay in lighted areas. RV parks in urban settings may be more prone to crime than the Ma and Pa campground tucked away in the boonies. But don’t let that be an excuse for letting your guard down.

Thank you Shzz

Safety of your RV

  1. For safety, lock up your RV always when not at home
  2. Lock any items like bikes with chains
  3. Get yourself a safe in your RV for Personal Items.
  4. Don’t leave anything out that could get taken easily
  5. Attach safety lights – a well-lit area deters unwelcome guests
  6. Close large windows when you go out.
  7. Lock all tools and accessories in under bins for safety.
  8. Keep a whistle handy if someone trys to break in and your home use it to raise an alarm.
  9. Look through windows first before you open your door to let someone in.
  10. Add an alarm to your door so it will make a loud sound should it be open by force.

Having a gun in your RV is your choice for safety too, in some states you are allowed a gun.  If a gun is something that you do not want then think about getting a stun gun instead they really do pack a punch and would deter anyone trying to break in.

Check out this torch and stun gun for safety.

Think safety and security every time.

Folding Table for use in a small space

When you live in an RV you have to utilise ever space that you have and I am thrilled that I have found an even better solution for my sewing needs.

I found a fabulous Folding table on Amazon that uses up hardly any space at all.  It was a very reasonable price at $77 and matches my beautiful coffee table I bought from Camping world.

Folding Table

Folding Table

Folding Table

Folded down

The table folds down really small and when we move can easily just sit on my bed it is so light weight and is on wheels with 4 drawers for scissors and simple sewing accessories.  My sewing machine fits perfectly with room for my swivel chair underneath.  I just love it and gives me my own space for sewing.

I have been sewing on my kitchen table which has been fine but this now gives me much more room and keeps my accessories even more organized than they were.  Being organised in a RV is key.

I will now be doing my cutting out of fabric on a trestle 5ft table I can put up and take down and the sewing on my new folding table.

My coffee table is working out really well and gives us more usable workspace.  I can’t believe that they both match each other and my RV too.  Such a good find..

The sewing part of my quilt Is now finished and ready to be quilted.  I just have to now complete my binding.  The quilt is only a simple one but has turned out fabulous.  Check it out.  I start my new project which will be a quilt for my sister on Monday.  I have been sewing for years but just never made a big quilt so I am very excited to have made my first one.

Army Strong and Stay safe

Off Topic

This is quite obviously off topic from RV stories but today is a really important day and I just wanted to share it with you all.

Army Strong – 40 years – Yeah! for Women

I consider myself to be Army Strong, 40 years ago today I signed on the dotted line to join The British Army.  Such a long time ago I know and I was so young as at the age of 16 I was one of 28 young girls around Britain who joined at that age. We were the very first women to join the Army at that age so we made history for women.

Junior Leaders Number 1 Intake

Army Strong

Junior leaders 1975

We all signed up on or around this date and we all headed towards Guildford for our 6 months training on 1st September 1975.

It was a very scary time for all of us as we were so young and had just left school.  I carried on to serve 4 years in the regular army and 8 years in the Territorial Army and my years doing this were just a fabulous time in my wonderful life.

With all the times that I have camped and lived outdoors it is probably one of the reasons that I love living in a RV.

I love it when I hear an advertisement that says stay Army Strong it makes me feel very proud of my accomplishments over those years.  I live in America now and stand right next to our allies and all the veterans over hear I wish them all the prayers and good health, just like our boys and girls in the UK. Stay safe.

I will always stay Army Strong no matter how old I get. There were many things that I did while I served but one of the things that I was really proud of when I was in Germany was that I marched the Nijmegen March.  Click the link to find out all about it. It was probably one of the hardest things I have ever done.

Nijmegen March

I consider myself so lucky to have travelled to so many places and met so many fabulous friends that even to this day I am still in touch with.  My friends in the Army will always remain with me in thought even if they are no longer with us.  Some made such a mark on my life and taught me so much.

Some of the places I visited were, Germany, including Berlin East and West. Denmark, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Bavaria among others.  I have so many memories at all these places and accomplished so many things.

Stay Army Strong people with all my love and respect.

RV Living Hospitality

Camping World

In the Pub

Here I am in Camerons Inn, Half Moon Bay having a pint and writing my blog.  What better way can you be inspired to write. The pub is actually on our RV park in Half Moon Bay RV Park.  RV living at it best.

RV Hospitality

Shazz in Camerons Pub

RV Living Hospitality

The comradeship and hospitality when you are RV living just goes through the roof.  Everyone just helps each other when you live on an RV park.  That is probably what I love most.  Just this morning my computer would not log on at all.  Panic is an understatement as I have a lot of stuff on my computer.  Just a text later and I am invited over to the pub with my laptop and Shazz who works there sure enough within a couple of minutes had my computer back up and running.  Grateful is an understatement.

Help thy neighbour

My husband and I have had a whole lifetime of helping various people but we also have had so many people in the past help us.  It is just paying forward is all it is.

Last week was a whole week of helping people and them helping us.  Our next door neighbours are new to RV living and just like us when we first started out were unsure how to empty their toilet.  Even though they show you when you first get it, you are always a little nervous when doing it for the first time.  Peter helped them and showed them what to do and how to keep their pipes clean.  Since they moved in we just gave them a few tips and pointers that if you havent lived in an RV before your wouldn’t know.  They thought that once a month was going to be good enough to empty their waste and now has soon learned that once every 4 days is probably better.

The next day we were given a bottle of Red wine just for our trouble.  How nice was that and really not needed at all.

We then had a neighbour who needed transport into town so we lent them ours and the next day were given a crate of beer.  Again we didn’t expect anything but how nice is that.

Another neighbour at the weekend needed help to move their RV and because we had a hitch and they didn’t we offered to help and they just moved about 6 spaces down into a bigger plot.  They just used our truck and we just helped guide them in.  On sunday they cooked us a barbecue of massive pieces of sword fish and beers all around.  Just so nice of them and very unexpected.

We don’t need any beer or wine for a week, very much appreciated and we will enjoy thank you.  xx

I am not saying that I expect anything for helping anyone but all these people were very grateful.  When we first started out RVing we had people help us in just the same way and we were very grateful of their help.  It is funny how whats come around goes around, it was just our turn that’s all.  People on an RV park help out because they want to not because they want to receive anything in return.  We are just happy to help anyone when we can and trust me it is there is always someone to help.

Just this morning an RV was leaving the site and drove away with their sewer pipe still attached it made so much noise that I heard it.  My neighbour chased them and then they heard the noise and got out and unattached it.  Things like that are so funny though and just like the film RV.  People care about you when you live in an RV.  We all look out for each other.

RV Living is such a great way to live as you never feel as though you are alone.  There are so many different types of people who live this way now and I for one find it very interesting meeting new people all the time.

Just chill baby

Our trip out on Sunday was to walk to the beach just a mile down the road and after walking along the beach just look at the fabulous view on The Ritz on the hill.

Camping Dryer for your RV

Wow! I have a new camping dryer for my RV and it is fabulous.

Camping Dryer

As you know I have my camping washing machine that I use to do my washing and now I have a drier to go with it.  It folds down to a really small size and is very compact.  I can dry 4/5 items in it as a time and it takes about 30 mins to dry them on the high heat.

Close Drier

The clothes dryer is actually called a close drier by Joy Mangano and I think is just genius.  I have read a few views on the internet that has said that theirs broke or the items didn’t dry well.  I can tell you from experience that I think it is just amazing.

The whole drier pulls up and extends into a mini wardrobe and you just hang your clothes inside it, zip it up and it dries your clothes.  I put 4 shirts on 30 mins and they dried really well and were nice and fluffy when finished.  I have not tried jeans yet I am sure they will take longer but will let you know how long that takes when I do.  Instead of your clothes being damaged in a regular drier this one gently blows a warm breeze onto your clothes which are hung up on hangers.

I call this my camping dryer but I am sure it could be used easily wherever you are, whether you are in an apartment, house of just renting a room.

Imagine the times when you are out camping and your washed a few items and just wanted them dry or you went swimming and it was a bit damp outside, what would you do, you would get out your camping dryer of course.

One of the complaints I have heard from some who have a washer dryer in their RV is that the drier makes their clothes wrinkly.  Well this does not, no ironing necessary afterwards just shake out your clothes hang them up and dry them.  Why has it taken someone so long to invent this, or why did I not know about this before?

This is what it looks like.

Always Quilting the best store

Always Quilting

Just by visiting this store you can see the it lives up to its name.  I have never been into a store with so many quilts hanging all over the walls.  They must be always quilting to have so many people have their beautiful work hanging.

On Friday I went to a Quilt store in San Mateo as I intended to do some cutting out there. They have a free day on a Friday where you can go there and meet other quilters, sew or cut out your material.  I had such a great time and the ladies there even invited me out to lunch with them.  They helped me so much with my cutting out of my fabric and I will definitely be going back again.  I took some photos of the ladies working on their quilts and also a quilt that really caught my eye.  This is a great place to buy fabric and get all your quilting needs.  I really like sewing and meeting other people who have the passion for sewing was just fabulous.  I look forward to getting to know the women and creating something really beautiful.

Thank you ladies for making me feel so welcome.

The quilting machine they have in always quilting is huge and is a great place to get your quilt finished when it is ready.  The quilts that are all over the walls in the shop are very inspiring and have been made so well.

I am making a quilt for my son and I am excited to get going I set up a tressel table in my living room to help with the cutting out and because of the advice of the lovely ladies their I now have a much larger cutting board and a better 6.5 in wide ruler which will be much easier for me to cut out my 6.5 ins squares.  Why work hard when you can work easy.  This store has everything you could possibly need to start quilting or even if you are an experienced quilter.

My squares are now nearly all cut out and I’m ready to start sewing which is the part I really like.  Being creative is what I really like to do.  I have just purchased a nice little table from Amazon as well which actually folds away so will be fabulous to use in the RV while I am sewing and can easily be stored away.  Just because you live in a small space does not mean that you cannot still do all the arts that you love doing whether that is knitting, painting sewing or whatever it is that you like to do.  Just be creative with your space.  This is the new table I have just bought check it out.

I will keep you updated on my beautiful quilt as it starts to come together so watch this space.

Camping World – Shopping

Camping World San Martin, CA

It sounds a bit daft, but I get really excited when I visit Camping World I just love looking around RVs and the store.  We had a couple of items that we needed for our RV and decided we would make a day of it by going over the 92, down the 280, then 101 and then after our visit to the camping world store we would head over to the coast via the 152 then up the 1 and do a big circle and just see what we see along the way.

I was disappointed to find out that this camping world store only had a shop and no RVs to glance around at as I really like that as a pass time so that I can get ideas and inspiration for the future.  I never really thought that any of the Camping world stores didn’t have RVs to sell as well.

The Camping world shop did not disappoint and had everything we wanted.  We even bought a new shower head that gives us more power when having a shower. The One that we purchased was the Fury Shower Head.  It is great, so much more powerful and we are really happy with it.

We also made a major purchase of a new coffee table.  We have purchased this before but my Son Michael loved it so much, we gave it to him.  We have missed it so much that we decided to purchase another and are so happy to have it back again.  It fits great in the RV and means we can eat off it while we even watch TV and it lifts up just like a table.  The quality is great and the color is Walnut.  it is called Swing up coffee table – walnut.

We saved $31 on our shopping that day by being members.

After camping world we drove over to the coast and on our way home stopped off at a lighthouse we saw just 30 mins away from where we are in Half Moon Bay.

The old light house was fabulous and we got some great pictures.  It was called Pigeon Point Lighthouse.  They also have a hostel there where you can stay for a very small cost. visit their webpage at

Robin Williams Dedication

It has been a year now since the fabulous Robin Williams has passed away and it is still so sad to hear. Please listen to this dedication on you tube by my Son Michael and his friend.  They did this last year in his memory and I think it is fabulous.  Michael is singing and you can just hear how upset he was at the time.

Fish philosophy – The 4 elements

image

4 ways to help you remain positive

Peter and I have been married for 21 years this year and when we got married we had the brady bunch of 6 children. With both of us working full-time and 6 children it was not an easy task.  Our finances were not in a good place and having 4 of our children teenagers at the time was no picnic.  We had some fabulous times as a family and have so many memories.  Our oldest is now 35 and youngest 23.  We would not have had it any other way as our children made us laugh and cry.

As a family we all learned to stay positive no matter what.  9 years ago we lost one of our children at a young age of 25 and it was a very difficult time in our lives.  Nothing seemed to help us get through this time,  we were committed to go  to a carnival just 2 weeks after Joannes passing and took our grandson and dressed up as clowns.  We found this day to be very therapeutic for all of us and we had a good time.  We really thank our friend Margot for getting us to still attend as fun and laughter can help you through the most difficult of times.

Fish philosophy

Having fun times when things are down is one of the best times to get through a difficult time.  Turning a difficult situation into a fun one is one of the best things you can do. On one occasion we had been invited to a family 21st birthday party.  We didn’t have the money to go let alone buy a present.  We didn’t want the children to not go to their cousins party so we put our video into the pawn shop and got enough money to buy a present and enough to buy us all a couple of fizzy drinks at the party.  Every time the children raised their glass they would say Mmmm! this video tastes nice.  When we got paid we got our video back.  A little expensive way to do it but a solution was sorted.  We had many times like this when the children were young but we would just come up with a solution move on and have fun while doing it.  All of our children are very positive people and we believe that we instilled that into them from a young age.

Fish Philosophy

I worked in sales when I was in the UK and one of the things that was bought to my attention during that time was the fish philosophy.  I think it is great and was bought about by a fish store in Seattle.  Click the video which explains what it is all about.

When we are having a bad day or not really having a good attitude, my husband and I do talk about this philosophy.  You may find that strange but it has helped us during many times in our life. We try to use it in our home life and work.  We have let ourselves down at times by not following the four key elements in the fish philosophy which are:

Play

Make their Day

Be there

Choose your Attitude

The guy that come up with these 4 very simple terms, I think is genius.

You can read more about the fish philosophy in Wikipedia

The Fish philosophy – Play

When you think about it, it is important to play when things go wrong.  The English have a weird sense of humor that we just laugh at everything that happens.  Sometimes we have to be reminded of that, have you ever been at a funeral of a loved one and you cry, then laugh, then cry again.  Laughter and fun and play are an important part of being able to remain positive even in the darkest of times.  My husband and I have so much fun in our life and we just love life.

The Fish philosophy – Make their Day

Just by saying to a complete stranger or loved one “your hair looks nice today” or complimenting them on anything you see them doing, will make someones day.  Sometimes just by say hello to someone can make their day.  They may not have seen anyone all day and just by you noticing them in some small way can make a difference. My husband is way better at making someones day than I am.  It is just natural for him, me, I have to work at it constantly,  I really do like it though when I can tell that I have made someones day.  It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

The Fish philosophy – Be there

Being there for someone can just mean that you stop playing on your cell phone when you’re in a conversation with someone and actually listen to them.  Just by nodding and paying attention can mean the world to someone.  Be there completely and put down whatever you are doing and give someone your time today.  I havent always been there for people and when I have failed it does come back on you.  You didn’t listen properly when you should have and didn’t do what you were supposed to do because of it can cause repercussions.

The fish philosophy – Choose your attitude

When you get up in the morning you can choose to be miserable or choose to just love the day you have been given.  To have a great attitude is a choice.  You choose who you want to be, what you want to do and who you want to be with.  I have failed at times by having a bad attitude and I find it eats away at you.  I choose to have a good attitude most of the time and when I have failed it comes back to me in groves in negative ways.  Negativity breeds negativity and positivity breeds positivity.  I choose to mix with positive people and find I stay away from the negative people as it can rub off on you.

We have both had difficult times in our lives and have always brushed ourselves down and picked ourselves back up on many occasions.  We have both been divorced, lost a child, mother and lost a home in the past.  The way we get through these times is to remain positive by trying to stick to the Fish philosophy that we really believe in.

If you are having difficult times just try it for a while and see how it does for you.  Just bring yourself back to the fish philosophy way of thinking and good luck in your endeavors.  We know we have hard times ahead but we will always try to stay positive no matter what.

There are Fish philisophy videos and books that you can find on Amazon. I have the books and find them very useful.  Here is a link for one of the books.

Other than the fish philosophy, I always look at other ways and tips to stay positive. Do you have ways to help you stay positive?  do you have any more tips for me?

RV Repairs after 3 years of full time living

Camping World

RV Care

RV Repairs

Our RV Montanna Mountaineer

Taking care of your RV is really important to avoid any RV repairs needed.  Sometimes though no matter how you take care of your RV things happen. Like the small mishap crash we had which was unfortunate. We are covered by our Insurance for that but RV repairs are you covered for that?

Toilet Broken

Just this morning I was using the toilet and  it cracked and nearly fell off the pedestal.  I couldn’t believe it.  Before I get all the big fat A jokes, just to let you know I am a little overwight but I don’t weigh over 200 pounds. I first of all thought, omg! have we just had an earthquake! and are we covered for our RV Repairs, until now we never needed to even think about it.

RV Repairs

I looked for our paperwork which was in the filing cabinet thankfully put away nicely.  Sure enough we have it covered under the warranty for quite a few RV repairs that may be needed. Our warranty covers us for 84 months. We are covered by Good Sam Warranty.  I called them and they were really helpful. I have a company in Redwood City that are going to help us called V&V Bros RVs and Trailers We haven’t even looked at the paperwork since we left Camping World 3 years ago with our RV.  We are really thankful that we are covered.

We haven’t had anything go wrong at all, we have been lucky I guess.  We really do look after our RV though.  I hoover with my Dyson handheld every day and keep down dust.  I clean the bathroom regularly and keep things really tidy.  Peter always looks after the outside making sure everything is clean and free from any leaves or debris.  He also takes care of the pipes and both of us clean the outside of the RV every 3 months.  Just taking care like that though does not mean things will not go wrong.

Make sure when you buy a new RV that you get a good warranty with it.  We bought our RV through Camping World they have a sale on right now Camping World Sale RV Repairs can happen to you no matter how much you take care of your RV.  We are grateful now that we are covered even though we havent need it until now.  It is gonna save us a few bucks.

Peter is going to pop into Big 5 in Redwood city on his way back as this will not be fixed right away and we cannot get through the night without using the bathroom.  He will pick up a camping toilet Camping toilet that they have with plastic bags and goo that goes into it for the toilet to tie us over.  He went everywhere Target, K Mart and Sporting Goods and couldn’t find anything. So amazon it is then, so I ordered these on Amazon and they will be here on Friday.  Just wished I had ordered first thing this morning then it would be here by tomorrow.

Living Small – 10 reasons why we live small

Living Small

There are many ways that you can live small.  The tiny house movement is now getting huge.

  • RV Living whether in a fifth wheel, small van or Large One. They are all RVs.
  • Mobile Home on wheels
  • On a Boat, whether that is on a yacht, narrow boat or boat.
  • Tiny House.

10 reasons people live small

  1. Work –  We travel and live small as my husband is a travel nurse and we find it is a great way to get about and have your own place to call home at the end of the day.  When we move and then set up our site our home stays the same just our scenery changes and I like that very much.
  2. Cost – You save so much money by living small.  The cost of campsites are so much less expensive that renting a property.  For instance in Half Moon Bay rents are anything from $2,400 to $3,500 just for a one bedroom property and we only pay $1,500 and have no electric bill to pay as all is inclusive, also if you don’t want full hook ups it is only $1200.  Some sites we have stayed on have been $500.  By living small you do not spend your money on stuff.  Stuff that you have no wear to put so therefore when you walking around the shops the normal stuff that you probably buy because you liked it you don’t because you do not have the room.
  3. Mind –  There is so much more time for you when you live small.  Less chores to do and more time for you and your mind.  To live this way you have to be right with yourself in what you want out of life.
  4. Time – Living small gives you your time back.  When we lived in a house that we owned we hardly had time to go out and explore places there was so much to do with the upkeep of the house.
  5. Freedom – you can go anywhere you want and choose where you want to live or stay for a while.  All small living houses can be moved. Freedom from clutter, you cannot have clutter when you live small so it feels very free when you rid yourself of things that you really do not need.
  6. Nature – You are more at home with nature when you live small as more time is spent outdoors as well as in.  We eat and cook outside most of the time.
  7. Nutrition – When you live small you think more about what you are going to eat as fresh vegetables and fruit in most country towns have these in abundance freshly picked.
  8. Like Minded People.  We have met so many people on our travels and we find that the people we meet also like living this way and we have many pot lucks and gatherings.  It is not a lonely lifestyle at all.
  9. Health Living small is great for you health as you are living a stress free life.
  10. Fitness – When you live small you go for more walks and go places as you have time and extra money to do things.  If you lived in the house you probably would just stay in most of the time.

Muirs Wood National Monument

This weekend with our time, we went to visit Muirs Wood which is just north of San Fransisco.  We walked up hill a very long way through the woods and the views of the massive redwood trees was unbelievable.  I will leave you with a few pictures from our day out.

Number one, to get to Muirs Wood we had to first go to San Fransisco and drive over the famous golden gate bridge. That was a treat in itself and was the first time we had ever driven over it.

Redwood City Grease Singalong

A night away from our RV.  I dropped Peter off at work at 7.30 in the morning and I had the whole day to kill until we were to go out to our Great night out in Redwood City.  Redwood City is such a beautiful place and has so much going on the City seems to really care about its people with so many events happening every week.  Great place to live.

Denny’s in Redwood City

I first of all went to Denny’s for breakfast which I love and had some nice tea and breakfast.  Denny’s has always been a favorite ever since we came to America.

 Rouge Hair Salon

I then decided that my day would be a pampering day so I went to the hairdressers in Redwood city called Rouge I had my hair done and ended up having the best head massage I have ever had all while the young girl was washing my hair.  Oh my I was in heaven.  I decided then and there that what I would do is also have a manicure and pedicure and that it would be a treat Joyce day.  They also put makeup on me and when I left there felt like a million dollars.  The customer service and the way they treated me was amazing and was as if I had been to a day spa.

Always quilting

While I was in Redwood City I also visited a neighbouring town call San Mateo just so that I could visit the fabulous quilting shop while I was there.  Boy I was not disappointed.  I managed to buy the fabric that I needed for the quilt I will be making and also found out about some classes that they do to help you. It was such a fabulous store and I was in my element.  What a great day so far.  After I visited the quilt store I headed over to our hotel to get booked in.

Best Western Executive Suites

I booked us in as we were staying at the Best Western Executive Suites at Redwood City, it was a very nice room with a welcome breakfast for in the morning at a great price. We decided that because the film does not start till 8.45 that it would be a late finish and with Peter being at work the next day early it would be a great welcome to just have to drive 5 minutes to a hotel instead of 35 minutes home.  It meant he could get up a little later in the morning too.  We were glad that we did and it worked very well.

Redwood City Grease singalong

We arrived to get seated at 7.00 pm and our friends already had a spot waiting for us. We sat and chatted waiting for the film to start with the weather being so warm and welcoming.  We could not believe how many people were arriving every minute.  I would say that there were around 500 people who waited patiently outside in their camping chairs and lots of potlucks waiting for the film to start.  The film was Grease and was to be a sing along which meant all the words were at the bottom of the screen and if you wished you could sing along to it.  I didn’t see anyone when the film started who wasnt singing.  Everyone took part and after every song there was lots of clapping whistling and cheering. There were lines for the girls and boys to sing. The atmosphere was fabulous and we enjoyed every minute of it not wanting it to end.

I was bought up with grease and have watched this film so many times with our children and friends over the years I just had one wish and that was that they were there with us to enjoy this great night.  I don’t think that Grease will ever go out of fashion.

The whole place was so picturesque all around us.  Redwood City is certainly a great place to visit.

Organizing tips for your RV

When you live in an RV full-time, it is important that you are organized and tidy.  Some of the things that you have when you live in a house really just sits in the cupboard, but when you live in an RV you have to choose what you really want and either sell the rest or give it away.  We regularly visit the good will store giving away things that we find that we don’t need or use.  It is hard to give things away but by doing that you live a very stress free life. It is very frustrating if you can’t find things that you want when you need them.  I have 10 tips for you to stay organized in your RV.

10 tips for organizing your RV

  1. Food

With your food, herbs and tins as soon as you open up a cupboard you should be able to see what is in there without moving things about.  Have food in clear containers like Rice, beans and Pasta and Oats.  You then know exactly when you need to buy more. Dont buy food that you don’t need there is not room.

Organizing

Cereals, rice, oats, pasta

Organizing

Tins

2.   Dvds

Keep you DVD’s in their containers and keep relevant films together so you can find them easily and have a cupboard designated just for them.

Organizing

Dvds

3.   Office Draw

I work at my desk and I cannot work if it is not tidy.  Make sure your desk is clear and tidy as a tidy desk is a tidy mind this includes your draw so that you can find things when you need them. The RV draws are really deep and really need a tray that you can add-on the top I bought this tray from Michael’s and helps me stay organized with my office

Organizing

Office Draw accessory

4.   Cutlery Draw

It goes without saying that your cutlery draw should always be tidy so that you can find what you need purchasing a cutlery tray should be one of the first thing you purchase.

Organizing

Cutlery Draw

5.  underwear draw

Your Clothes have to be limited when living in a fifth wheel. By organizing them better though you can gave more than you think. To give you more room for underwear you should roll them so that you can get more in and they stay tidy.

You didn’t think I was gonna show you my underwear did you.?

Organizing

Underwear and hanky’s

Organizing

Sock Draw

6.  Filing Paperwork

We all have paperwork that we have to file away and keep.  Organizing this can still be in a file cabinet we have one that sits on the floor and we pick it up and just sit it on the couch when we move.  Keeps everything nice and tidy and is labelled so paperwork is easy to find.

Organizing

Filing cabinet

7.  Shoe Racks

We have two shoe racks.  One that we use when we come into the RV so that your shoes are taken off when you come in to help keep the RV clean and the other I have on the back of my bedroom door which holds all the rest of our shoes. The shoe rack by the door folds flat.

Organizing

8.   Towels

There is no need to have tons of towels when you live in an RV organizing them can be difficult with little room.  Normally the cupboards allocated for towels are very small the best thing to do is not to fold them but the roll them and then you will get more in.  There are 4 large bath towels rolled into this small cupboard.

Organizing

4 rolled bath towels

9.   Pillows and extra Bedding

Use the space saver bags by Ziploc for extra Pillows and bedding for guests.  the picture below is 2 pillows that have been sucked down and then fit into a cupboard really easily.  A whole bedding set can be sucked down to a really small size and easily used and then put away again.  Organizing your bedding in this fashion saves so much space.

10.   Hangers for Clothes

If you’re like me then I don’t like two sets of items on one hanger in the wardrobe.  It makes your clothes hard to find and it is irritating.  To help you save space I found that just by switching out my hangers from rounded plastic hangers to the flock coat hangers.  One advantage is that it gave me double the room to be able to hang my clothes, the second is that the clothes do not fall off the hanger so easily.

My clothes are in order of my husbands and mine.  On the one side of the wardrobe, we keep things like suits and dresses that are not worn very often, and on the other side regular every day clothes. The white hanger is the one that we now use that gives us more room.

RV Crafts – find out how I cope

The Crafts that I have made while living in my RV full time are sewing, quilting, crocheting and gift baskets.

RV Crafts

I have seen many people work from their RVs doing RV Crafts such as woodwork, embroidery, making gift baskets, sewing, quilting and painting.

I really like crafts especially, sewing and quilting.  When our children were small my husband and I would spend hours cutting out and sewing clothes for school for them. We had 5 children all at high school age and needed to save the pennies somewhere.  We would quite often make Christmas gifts like table mats and table runners to save money.  People that received our gifts have been very grateful.  There is something about having something handmade that makes it extra special.

RV Crafts, as opposed to crafting in your home, is a little different as you are limited on space.  The way that I have coped with this is to be very organized with my crafts.  I have an allocated a cupboard just for this and I put my material, ribbons, zippers, biased binding etc. all in clear boxes so I can see at a glance what is in the box.  I have stuffing material in bags behind my chairs and my sewing machine sits on our dining room table along with my sewing box with everything I need.

I am so lucky to have a husband who supports me to do crafting as he likes to sew and crochet too.  my husband is very talented as cutting out patterns and also crocheting.  Not many men admit to that.

Sewing Box

I have had my sewing box for a long time and I find it holds quite a bit like, thread, thimbles, buttons, sewing pins, measuring tapes, stitch rippers, scissors, rotary cutter, pencils, needles etc.

The only way I cope with this box is to keep it tidy, otherwise I can’t find what I need when I need it.  When I am sewing I have this out open on my table in the corner where it is out-of-the-way but I can easily get to it to obtain what I need. It closes down really small and fits into my cupboard.

RV crafts

Sewing Box

I am making a small quilt mat to put my sewing machine on at the moment.  I am waiting for fusible batting to come from amazon so I can sandwich it to start quilting.

I like the colors what do you think?

RV crafts

Sewing machine mat

When you are living in an RV I don’t like to take up room with a large ironing board so I use a small one that fits onto my counter top to do the pressing.  When I am sewing I can leave it out and it is not in the way and does not infringe on any part of the RV. I put it on top of a towel so it doesn’t scratch the counter top.

RV crafts

travel ironing board

When I am not using material and other items, I store them in a plastic bin in the overhead cupboard and again I keep things very tidy so I can easily find them.

Organization when doing RV crafts is key.

RV crafts

Plastic bins in overhead compartment

I do not buy most of the time what I do not need, I really think about what I want to make and then use up most of the things I buy so that I do not have tons of stuff just for the sake of it.

I buy a lot of my items from Amazon, I saw a fabulous sewing machine on their yesterday that was only $134 crazy price.  Check it out on the link below.  I’m thinking I want an embroidery machine next.  Do you have one, any suggestions on what to get?.

Brother CS6000i Feature-Rich Sewing Machine With 60 Built-In Stitches, 7 styles of 1-Step Auto-Size Buttonholes, Quilting Table, and Hard Cover

My sewing machine sits on the kitchen table and we move the table further towards the wall so that I have room to easily get in and out.  When I am not using it I just push it towards the back of the wall and when I am sewing I pull it to the front. I also pull out the side of the table which gives me extra room. We eat outside most of the time but when we eat in there is nothing in our way.  The only time I put it all away completely is if someone is coming to stay and we need all four chairs otherwise it is not in our way and does not look unsightly at all.

My intention at the moment is to finish my mat tomorrow and then to start making a queen size quilt and I am excited to get started.

If you live in an RV and have any more tips on how you can do RV crafts then please let me know and I will let you write in my blog.

Please feel free to subscribe to my blog at the top and receive regular updates on how I live fulltime in my RV.

Harry Potter visits Half Moon Bay

Daniel Radcliffe

We are staying at the RV Park at Half Moon Bay on the site of Camerons Inn and had a visit from the one and only Harry Potter.

Camerons Inn

Smoking Bus at Camerons Inn

Daniel Radcliffe who played Harry Potter in the movies sang on the karaoke and surprised everyone by rapping on the mike.  I actually heard all the singing and clapping from my RV wondering what was going on as people were normally louder than usual. I sometimes hear the singing as we are only literally 50 footsteps away from the Pub.  Not like this though as it was much louder than normal.

It wasn’t until the very next day that I found out that he was the one singing.  I could hear him but just didn’t know it was him.  I was actually going to go over and see what was going on but decided not to.  I really wish I had now gutted.

Harry Potter

My husband and I watch DVDs and actually had just been watching Harry Potter which is kind of weird that he should then pay a visit to Camerons Inn.  Our daughter Frances is such a fan too maybe he will come again. I know if I had met him she woud have been jealous.  So close was I.

Harry Potter “Daniel Radcliffe” Rapping at Camerons Inn

Living at Half Moon Bay RV Park you never know who is going to visit.  It is such a great place, everyone loves England and it is just like you stepped into a pub in London.  I am from England so for me it is like being at home with English food and drinks available right on my doorstep.  When I am in the pub I feel like a celebrity myself because as soon as I speak to people they start asking lots of questions about England because of my accent.   I would have loved to have had a chat with Daniel Radcliffe             ” Harry Potter” as we would have had the same accent.

I am going to move onto the updates on previous blogs I have done on here and thought you may like to know how my Camping washing machine and Tower Garden was coming on.

Camping Washing Machine

I thought I would let you know that my washing machine that I purchased two weeks ago is working fabulously.  I am absolutely loving it and I am using it everyday.  I can’t believe how much money I am saving by not using the washers on site here at Half Moon Bay.  My clothes are really clean and it is so easy to use. You can buy the camping washing machine from Camping World on the link on this site.  Only $104.

Tower Garden

My Tower garden is coming on fabulous and my lettuce is ready to use.  I can just take leaves from the back of the lettuce and it will continue to grow.  I don’t need to purchase anymore.  My herbs I have already been using and the rest of products are growing nicely.  They are liking the weather here in Half Moon Bay.

You can go to Tower Garden and buy yours today.

Sharknado 3 Oh Hell No!

Sharknado 3

image

Today is the day that Sharknado 3 will be aired on Syfy at 9/8c.  You may wonder why I’m so excited and I’m going to tell you.  Although I live in my Fifth Wheel and that is what I normally talk about.  We all have family right.  Well I am no exception.  Today is about my son.

My son Michael Hardman is the Foley editor and ADR Recordist on this film along with Sharknado 1, Sharknado 2 and now Sharknado 3.  Michael is not just the least ad singer of the band Dinosaur Parade but also is an ADR and Foley Engineer working for the Asylum in Burbank, Los Angeles, which he enjoys very much.  I wouldn’t normally brag so much but I think as a parent I have the right to.  Michael is only 23 years of age and if you see all of the 72 projects he has worked on albeit mostly B movies,  I think I have the right to brag, Michael Hardman will be a name in the future that you will see winning awards I have no doubt.  He graduated from College with his Bachelors Degree at the age of 19 and was Valedictorian so it is no surprise that he has such a great job.  I am sure that in the future someone who works on A movies will want him to work for him and I really wish that for him.  He works very hard and is very dedicated to his craft.

Michael and his friends have written and performed a silly song about Sharknado 3 which I think you should all listen to.  The Best Worst Movie Sharknado 3.  You might want to have a few beers tonight, listen to their song and then watch Sharknado 3 Oh Hell No! on the Syfy Channel.

All the Sharknado films have had a lot of media attention as it is so silly and classed as the best worst movie.  When these films first came out there was so much media attention that twitter just blew up. They now have a cult following and I am no exception to that. Tonight I am sure will be no different as there are so many stars that are going to be in the movie you can watch the previews on Syfy.  The film Sharknado 3 was filmed on the east coast from Washington DC to Florida.  It will be great fun to watch and laugh about.

The one liners in past Sharknado films have just absolutely cracked me up.  I hope you enjoy the film tonight as I am sure you will.  I am excited and I hope you are as excited as I am.  I can’t wait to hear the one liners in the film tonight.

Enjoy! Don’t take life so seriously,  Life is about having fun.

Exploring West Coast Weekend

Fabulous weekend exploring the coast

What a great weekend we had exploring the coast around us both north and south.  We headed out on Saturday as there were a few things that we needed and we decided to go to West Lake City Shopping center The journey there and back was just fabulous.  If this is where I have to drive to go shopping then so be it.  There was no traffic on the way there but on the way back we were stuck in traffic but really with this view it didn’t bother us one bit.

Exploring

West Coast Near West lake

It certainly makes you think when your driving this close to the sea.  We were talking about what we would do in the event of a Tsunami and certainly this could be a possibility when you live so close and that you are in an earthquake zone as we are.  Seeing these sign posts along the way doesn’t help.  I think if there is a Tsunami then we will be kissing our A………. goodbye the hills will be really hard to get up in time.

On our way back we stopped off at the fish market in Half Moon Bay for some fresh fish.  Oh! boy we were in for a treat.  It was absolutely fabulous.  We bought prawns, shrimp and salmon and it just looked wonderful, we could not wait to get home and get it on the barby.  Shrimp on the barby it was …. yum yum!

On Sunday we decided we would go to the The Ritz Carlton hotel, Half Moon Bay for lunch and when we got there we found out that to get a parking spot you need to have a reservation.  The hotel is literally 5 minutes driving distance away from us.  Well we were a little disappointed but may be our exploring in that direction can just wait till next week.  We can’t wait to go it looks fabulous.

We carried on driving down south towards Santa Cruz and found a little town just to the left about 15 mins down the hill called Pescadero.  It was such a cute little town that had a lot of history with pictures of people in stage waggons and cowboys.

We ate at the saloon restaurant there and we were so full when we left they had beef to die for.  The food was fabulous and cheap too.  We visited their shops which were very antique and interesting they even had items for the garden that had been made from old milk bottles that just looked amazing.  There were also a lot of home-made items like quilts and glassware.  We just loved the little town so much I think we will be visiting this one again.

By the time we got back to our RV we were tired and just felt so blessed that we are staying in an area that is so amazing and that has so many nooks and crannies for us to still be exploring.

Dinosaur Parade Band Visit

Dinosaur Parade Band visits Half Moon Bay

Dinosaur Parade Band

Dinosaur Parade Band

Wow! what a whirlwind 3 days it has been.  I was visited by Dinosaur Parade while they were on tour.  They had a gig in Santa Cruz, Oakland and then last night in San Francisco.  I fed and watered them and gave them all a place to lay their heads all be it in a tent next to my fifth wheel.

I went with the for a nice walk down to the beach where they just loved the walk through the trees and even climbed them.  We went down to the cliffs and then onto the beach where Anthony jumped into the sea.  It was such fun.

James was periscoping our events through twitter on his phone while Anthony was climing the trees and we were being watched by a few people.

When we all got to the gig at the Milk Bar in San Francisco last night one of the people who was watching us came to the gig and introduced himself.  Wow! how cool was that.  I am now a lover of periscope and have downloaded the app onto my phone.  Such fun.

We all had lunch at Cameron’s Inn while they were here and mostly they had the fish n chips, except Michael and I had the bangers and mash and they even warmed up some mushy peas for me.  Yum Yum so delicious.

In San Francisco we all went to Boudins Bakery and had Sourdough bread bowls with clam chowder.  I havent had this before but it was amazing.  It was quite funny ad Michael really hates the smell of fish.  He had a burger of course.

Afterwards Brittney, James and Anthony from Dinosaur Parade band all decided to try some oysters at the bar they all had two each and had one for me but I was too chicken to try it.  They all said it was delicious.  Michael and I declined.  They all really enjoyed the experience though it was quite cool watching their faces.

Dinosaur Parade Band has left now but I had such fun with them the last 3 days and I hope they come again soon.

Camping Washing Machine

New Camping washing machine

I am on a site in Half Moon bay and the washing machines here are $2.50 now you might think that is expensive and yes it is but the local washing launderette it $3.00 to wash. The Dryers are also $2.50 on my site and the dryers in town also the same.

Everywhere I have ever been in California I have only paid from $1.25 to $1.50 to wash and just $1.00 to dry.  San Francisco is way more expensive than everywhere else and that’s just the way it is.

I have space in my RV to have a full hook up Washer dryer fitted and have all the connections to do that, the problem with that is that I then lose more or less a whole cupboard where at the moment I have my clothes.  I really cannot afford to lose that space.

I came up with another solution and that is to have a portable camping washing machine, I looked at all the ones that were available and some were just a bit bigger than I would like, especially when we move it can cause problems if there is not enough space for it.

The one that I chose is made by Base Camp outdoor systems and is called a camping washing machine a lever portable.  It is only 21.9″ and is only 14.2″ wide.

I have used it today and I have done  6 full loads of normal washing and caught up with all my washing as I refused to pay another $2.50.  I actually managed to wash sheets, jeans and towels just in smaller loads is all.

Regular washing will help me keep on top and it works perfectly fine.  I think my whites came out better that the camp washing machine actually.  I just felt like I had gone back in time when I was a young girl helping my Mom do the washing with her twin tub only this was much easier.

If you would like to purchase a camping washing machine then you can click on the image below.

I am a very happy shopper today.
